I have now started developing a competency mapper GUI. I have decided to let it be powered by OWL, so that the main data structures of the mapping will be done in OWL, hence enabling it to be used to map any ontology and create instances into it (and new classes etc.) It is my belief that this exercise will give me more knowledge of both ontologies and competencies giving me a better overview of the topics needed for the TRACE project.

So therefore I’ve made a small competency / ePortfolio ontology in n3 based on the IMS guidelines of ePortfolios. This ontology should then provide the base classes / predicates for the mapper, this together will be the complete competence mapper.
